Playsourcing: Actions In a Serious Game Affecting The Real World

Nicole Lazzaro , the founder and President of XEODesign, Inc., is one of the silver medal winners of the International Serious Play Awards Competition with the Serious Game Tilt World in the Games for Good category. Tilt World  is an iOS game that sets Flip, a tiny tadpole, against the forces of an evil pollution called the Blight. Players help Flip eat carbon and gather seeds to turn a desolate wasteland into a lush green forest both on the iPhone and in the real world. Playful, but with a strong ecological message, Tilt World makes use of the smartphone or tablet’s accelerometer to make Flip the tadpole help fight the Blight that has affected Shady Glen by eating carbon and planting seeds.  The game is tied to a real world impact: each time Flip attempts to save Shady Glen (an area that needs reforestation) your in-game actions will be mirrored in a real world campaign which intends to see one million trees planted in Madagascar. Kognito Interactive is one of the silver medal winners of the International Serious Play Awards Competition with the Serious Game At-Risk in Primary Care in the Healthcare/Medical category. Developed in partnership with the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the simulation is free to all New York City primary care providers (PCPs). The training helps PCPs screen and manage patients with potential trauma-related mental health disorders. USC Student’s Education Game Named Best of Show At 2013 International Serious Play Competition  LOS ANGELES – Aug. 30, 2013 – Covalence , an educational "Serious Game" created by Jason Mathias, a student at USC, won Best of Show in the student competition of the 2013 International Serious Play Awards Covalence  attempts to teach players about the covalent compounds, which is a strand of science taught at GCSE-level. Serious Games Planting The Seed For Space Exploration

The Canadian Space Agency and Project Whitecard Inc have also won the prestigious Gold Medal in the International Serious Play Awards Competition with the Serious Game Planting The Seed For Space Exploration in the Education category. Designed specifically for classrooms, the Canadian Space Agency's 3D education resources have been developed on an interactive platform that simulates the experience of flying on a Soyuz spacecraft and living and working on a space station. Reaching approximately 1 million elementary students this year, Planting the Seed simulates the experience of working on the International Space Station with the guidance of a virtual astronaut, Chris Hadfield. "Serious" Games closing the gaps in Math learning New Mexico State University Learning Games Lab is another gold medal winner of the International Serious Play Awards Competition with the Serious Game Math Snacks - Game Over Gopher in the Education category. Game Over Gopher is part of NMSU’s Math Snacks initiative funded by the National Science Foundation. Math Snacks are Serious Games, interactive modules and short animations designed to give students another way to look at math concepts. Each snack presents a mathematical concept, particularly those addressed in grades 6, 7 and 8. The availability of Snacks on the Internet, iPhone and iPad, makes it possible for students to enjoy the games during non-school time as well as in class. Team researchers analyzed standardized mathematics test results from over 400 teachers and 24,000 students, identifying the gaps in learning. Succubus Interactive is one of the gold medal winners of the International Serious Play Awards Competition with the Serious Game Cornak in the Business category. Cornak allows players to learn how to manage their sales activity and particularly their client database. Set in a remote future, Cornak frees players from the nowadays market constraints to help them focus on the core challenge: selling products while skillfully and efficiently managing a customer portfolio. Cornak was developed in partnership with Waypoint Conseil, a consulting company specialized in sales performance optimization. The Serious Game is intended not only for an inexperienced sales force, but it is also helpful for experienced professionals needing to improve their competences. Through Cornak role-play, players become aware of the importance of planning their activity and understanding the consequences of their actions, which is often hard to do in the real world due to day-day pressures.
