The Autodesk Digital STEAM Workshop is an innovative, highly visual curriculum that inspires students to solve real-world challenges using Autodesk software, while preparing them for the Autodesk Certified User exam. It offers an engaging project based learning experience that heavily relies on Serious Gameplay.

Through Educational Serious Games, a 3D project viewer, and Design Thinking videos the curriculum engages students while teaching and reinforcing the learning of core Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) concepts in a fun way.

Supporting career and technical education program requirements, the curriculum introduces students to careers in design through videos from professionals in today’s workforce, providing students with a solid introduction to design regardless of their academic path or career choice.

Autodesk announced last week the launch of its first set of Serious Game-based, Digital STEAM iPad Applications, for students between the ages of 11 to 18.

The new Autodesk Digital STEAM Applied Mechanics app uses Serious Games to teach students the basic principles of applied mechanics. It is a free iPad app that contains five simple games, designed to let students experiment with five connected physics concepts: Energy and Work, Force, Power, Loading, and Mechanisms. These concepts are essential in the development of innovative products and product systems and learning about how things work.

In addition to the Digital STEAM Applied Mechanics app, Autodesk also released the Digital STEAM Visual Design app and the Digital STEAM Measurement app.

STEAM Visual Design
This app steps through a glossary of design topics, illustrating concepts like color, space and form and along with principles like balance, proportion and contrast, all in a visual, interactive way

STEAM Measurement
This app steps through a glossary of topics dealing with measurement, illustrating the concepts by allowing you to measure objects and interact with other objects to change the values

Each of these apps is designed to supplement Autodesk’s curriculum portal - Digital STEAM - which provides free materials to secondary educators.
